In order to convey his dramatic experience, Ionesco presents us with a conventional, scenic and familiar reality, only to immediately annihilate it. From that apparent naturalism, a nonsense atmosphere emerges, where logic gives way to illogic. Amédée and his wife have a problem to solve. There has been a corpse in their bedroom for 15 years, which is unexpectedly beginning to grow and take over the entire apartment. “Amédée ou Como Desembaraçar-se is a tragicomic spectacle of human life”, writes director Ivo Alexandre, who shares the stage with Anabela Faustino, João Ribeiro and Tiago da Câmara Pereira. “In this, just like in all of his works, Ionesco encourages the audience to question the artistic object, forcing them to abandon a passive entertainment stance, and, through perplexity, to think autonomously.”
